Review: Lelo Switch double-ended wand vibrator

What is the Lelo Switch?

A few readers were curious about the Switch when I listed it as one of my favorite toys of 2025, despite it being far from perfect – so I thought I’d review it in full today!

Naming it the Switch was an interesting choice, given that it was released the same year as the Nintendo Switch 2, but whatever, you do you, Lelo! Its name refers to the fact that it’s double-ended, with a motor in each end, so you can “switch” back and forth between its wand head and its G-spot-targeting handle.

It’s rechargeable, and is made of silicone and ABS plastic. It’s 8.5″ long, with about 4″ of insertable length on the G-spot side, the widest diameter of which is about 1.3″.

Things I like about the Lelo Switch:

  • Rumbly vibrations: While the vibration strength leaves something to be desired (of which more below), the timbre/pitch of these vibrations is deliciously rumbly, which most people (myself included) find more pleasurable than surface-level buzzy vibrations. With the Switch, I don’t experience the temporary desensitization that I get from buzzy vibrators, so I can enjoy the toy’s sensations all the way through a session.
  • Wide range of vibration speeds: This has always been one of Lelo’s strong suits. The Switch starts at a very low speed – just a gentle, teasing rumble – and has a whopping 16 intensity levels, which is way more than any wand I’m aware of. If you’ve used wands before and found that they felt too intense or that the big jumps between speeds were too jarring, you’d likely appreciate the subtler gradation offered by the Switch.
  • Color: This shade of teal/turquoise is absolutely stunning, and surprisingly uncommon in sex toys. I still don’t love the weird faux-metal detailing Lelo likes to incorporate, though, because it gets scuffed easily and is cheap-looking compared to the classic Apple-esque Lelo aesthetic of yore. But presumably some people think it looks luxurious and sexy, or they wouldn’t keep making toys that feature it! Right…?!
  • Lightweight: The Switch only weighs 167 grams, or about 0.37 pounds. That’s significantly lighter than other wands of a comparable size, like the We-Vibe Wand 2 (1.5 pounds) and Magic Wand Mini (0.6 pounds). As someone who struggles with chronic pain and muscle weakness, I love having a lightweight wand in my collection that I can grab when other wands feel too tiring to hold.
  • Decent battery life: You get about 2 hours of usage from a 2-hour charge with the Switch, which is comparable with other rechargeable mini wands on the market.
  • Quiet: This is one of the quietest wand vibrators I’ve ever used. Even its highest speed is only 62 decibels (according to the noise-measuring app on my Apple Watch), which is about as loud as a dishwasher. (For reference, the Magic Wand Rechargeable and Waterproof both top out at about 75 db, which is louder than a vacuum cleaner.)
  • Waterproof: The Switch is 100% waterproof, so you can use it in the shower or tub, and can wash it without fear of ruining it. Yay!
  • Inflexible neck: Some people prefer wands with a bendy neck, but I’ve always preferred ones with as little flex as possible, since that allows you to apply more pressure if/when you want to.
  • Travel lock: Like many other Lelo toys, the Switch has a travel lock function, so it won’t start buzzing in your purse/pocket/suitcase if you don’t want it to. Just hold down the “+” and “–” buttons simultaneously for a few seconds to lock or unlock it.

Things I don’t like about the Lelo Switch:

  • Not strong enough: Is the Switch strong, relative to other Lelo vibes? I’d say so! Is it strong relative to other wands? Not exactly. Its highest vibration speed is somewhere in between the first and second speeds of both the Magic Wand Mini and Rechargeable. If power is your priority (as is often the case for wand users), you should just get one of those instead. I’ve also noticed that the Switch’s vibrations feel somewhat buried below the surface of the toy, resulting in orgasms that feel slightly more muted/less satisfying than wand orgasms usually do for me.
  • Double-endedness: [Gretchen Weiners voice] Stop trying to make double-ended toys happen. They’re not going to happen!! …Okay, I’m sort of kidding; some people like ’em, and there are a few double-ended toys I adore, such as the NobEssence Seduction and Njoy Pure Wand – but notably, when I use those toys, I typically only use one side per session. I don’t “switch” back and forth between ends throughout, as the name of Lelo’s wand seems to encourage, because I don’t like the sensory nightmare of getting lube/vaginal fluids all over my hands. I would always prefer that a sex toy just do one thing really well.
  • Not G-spotty enough: The curve of the Switch’s G-spot end is okay – it indeed hits my spot, and can feel good – but ultimately it isn’t as deeply curved as a G-spot vibe should be, IMO. I often find myself angling the toy downward to apply more pressure to my spot, which tires out my arm after a while and shouldn’t be necessary with a well-designed G-spot toy. There are tons of better G-spot vibes out there, from the Swan Wand to the Dame Arc to Lelo’s own Mona 2 – and what they all have in common is that they’re more curved than the Switch’s handle.
  • Confusing controls: The double-endedness would be easier to deal with if I could guarantee that the vibrations would stay in the end of the toy I’m actually using for the entire duration of a session, but that’s trickier to achieve than you’d think. The center button on the control panel allows you to scroll through 10 different vibration modes – 4 that vibrate the wand’s head, 4 that vibrate the G-spot end of the toy, and 2 that utilize both ends (presumably so couples can both use the toy simultaneously?) – but the toy alternates between the two ends as you flip through modes, which is irritating. You can also change the vibration mode with your phone by using the Lelo app, but the app’s interface is confusing and the modes are poorly labeled.
  • Shallow insertion only: When using the G-spot end of the Switch, you can only insert it up to 4 inches before the toy’s buttons start going inside you. Granted, the G-spot itself is located only 2-3 inches inside, so for some users this may not matter, but I usually prefer deeper penetration and it’s annoying that the Switch’s buttons get gunked up with vag juice if I push this toy as deep as I like.
  • 20-minute auto-shutoff: Like the rechargeable Magic Wands, the Switch automatically shuts off after 20 minutes of use to prevent overheating (although you can increase that timespan to 30 minutes in the settings of the Lelo app). I find auto-shutoffs annoying and occasionally orgasm-ruining, but I get around this problem by turning the vibe off and back on again every so often.
  • Vibrations transmit into handle: Even when I’m using the wand side’s motor exclusively, its vibrations still transmit into the other side of the toy, vibrating my hand. I find this bothersome after a while. (Yeesh, it really doesn’t speak well of this toy that I just had to look up synonyms for “annoying” while writing this…)
  • Ridged texture: Fun Factory already tried making a ridgey-headed wand, supposedly because the ridges help the toy cling onto lube better, but I just found those ridges a bit abrasive against my skin. The Switch’s texture isn’t as extreme, but it still feels unnecessary, more of an aesthetic touch than a practical one. Even when I insert the G-spot end, I can barely feel the “ultra-soft sensorial ribs” (to use Lelo’s terminology), so I’m not sure why they’re there.
  • Price: As is par for the course with Lelo, this vibe is too damn expensive for what it is. Its retail price is $200(!!) – although, as of this writing, it’s on sale for $180 at Lovehoney – which makes it one of the priciest wands on the market, up there with the ultra-powerful Doxy Die Cast and Magic Wand Waterproof. It’s a nice vibe, sure, but I don’t think it’s nice enough to be worth $200.

Final thoughts

When sex toy companies try to create multipurpose toys, too often they end up making something mediocre. For years, I have said that Lelo and other vibrator companies should focus on just making really good vibrators that do their one job very well. The Switch attempts to do two things – external vibration like a wand, and internal vibration like a G-spot vibe – and it’s therefore only so-so at both of them.

That being said, there are reasons some people might nonetheless enjoy it – hell, even I do, sometimes! The ideal user for the Switch would be someone who meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • likes rumbly vibration but doesn’t need it to be ultra-powerful
  • enjoys both clitoral & G-spot stimulation, though not necessarily at the same time
  • appreciates a luxurious aesthetic & doesn’t mind spending big bucks on a sex toy
  • needs, for privacy reasons, a vibrator that is both quiet & waterproof
  • travels frequently & wants a travel-friendly, versatile vibrator

…but I’ll level with ya: If you want power, you want a Magic Wand instead. If you want an intense G-spot vibe, you want the Swan Wand or Mona. The Switch has given me plenty of orgasms with its wonderfully rumbly vibrations, but alas, its high price tag, underwhelming power, and confusing controls make it hard to recommend. It’s not as mechanically glitchy as Lelo’s previous attempt at making a wand, the Smart Wand, which is good, I guess – but the wand category is competitive, and plenty of other wands massively outperform the Switch. Better luck next time, Lelo! 🪄

Review: Lovense Domi 2 mini wand vibrator

What is the Lovense Domi 2?

While best known for their wearable toys, like the Lush 4 G-spot vibe and Edge 2 vibrating butt plug, Lovense has expanded their range massively to include just about every major category of toy – so, of course, they had to make a wand, and that wand is the Domi.

The Domi is a petite wand, comparable in size to the Magic Wand Mini. It’s rechargeable and lasts up to 6 hours on a charge. Like Lovense’s other toys, this one can be controlled remotely (by you or by someone else) via the Lovense app. The Domi currently retails for $119.

Things I like about the Lovense Domi 2:

  • This is an impressively strong little wand! And it’s pretty damn rumbly for the lowest third(-ish) of its power range, after which it starts to get progressively buzzier. In my experience, a lot of wand users like some buzziness with their rumbliness, though, especially on the higher end. Personally, I prefer rumbly, so I try to stay within the lower range of intensities when using this toy so I don’t get overstimulated or numbed out from the buzziness – but I like that it offers such a wide range in terms of not only vibration strength but also vibration timbre.
  • The Lovense app opens up basically infinite possibilities for customizing your experience with this toy (and most other Lovense toys, too): You can control the vibration speed with greater precision than via the toy’s own buttons, create your own vibration patterns or try other people’s creations, sync the vibrations up to music or sound, etc. There are lots of more minor settings you can change too – like I was able to turn off the blinking red light on the toy’s control panel, which I constantly mistook for a low-battery warning, by unchecking “enable LED” in the Domi’s settings. Yay!
  • I think this wand’s size and shape will work well for a huge range of users. I find it easy to hold and maneuver around, even with my achy hands/arms – especially because of the thoughtful finger indentations on the sides of the handle. The wand’s smallish head allows it to target a clit or the head of a dick with ease. The Domi is also way more travel-friendly than a full-size wand, making it suitable for long-distance couples in more ways than one.
  • I like the Domi’s buttons a lot. They’re simple, but well-executed: the “up” button is slightly bigger and more raised than the “down” button, so once you’re accustomed to them, you can find them easily without even looking at the control panel. Kudos.
  • Could be a pro or a con, depending on your preferences: The Domi’s neck is very flexible, so you can press the wand’s head decently hard against your body without fear of snapping the neck. If you like applying a lot of pressure against your bits, however, you might find the flexible neck annoying because it doesn’t allow for that.
  • It’s absolutely wild for a wand to have a battery life of 5-6 hours like this one does! (For reference, the Magic Wand Mini runs for 2 and a half hours on a full charge; the rechargeable Doxy Die Cast 3R mini wand runs for only an hour.)

Things I don’t like about the Lovense Domi 2:

  • Lovense makes a couple of optional attachments for the Domi: the “Male” attachment, which is made to stimulate the penis and prostate, and the “Female” attachment, which is made for clitoral and G-spot stimulation. While these attachments are cool and add a lot of functionality to the toy, I wish they were named something less cissexist, since trans and nonbinary people exist and it’s 2025. I also wish they were included with the wand itself, rather than costing an additional $18–25 each, since the wand alone is already a bit pricier at $119 than some other wands of comparable size and quality (for instance, Lovehoney’s rechargeable mini wand goes for $60, Doxy’s goes for $70, and the Magic Wand Mini is $100).
  • I’m so used to controlling wand vibes via their own buttons that it feels unnatural and unnecessary most of the time to connect the Domi to my phone and operate it via the Lovense app… but, if you control it solely via its buttons, you only get 3 steady vibration speeds to choose from, with big jumps in intensity between each, and then it goes into vibration patterns. I find this irritating; 6-8 different steady speeds is the minimum I’d hope for. I don’t want to have to pull out my phone every time I jerk off, especially since touchscreens are hard to operate with lubey hands.
  • This is a fairly loud vibe (as is common for wands), and the sound can be somewhat shrill and annoying. It’s not terrible but I definitely prefer to drown it out with some white noise on the stereo when I use this toy.
  • This wand isn’t fully waterproof, only IPX6 water-resistant, meaning it’s fine to wash it in the sink or use it in the shower but you shouldn’t submerge it. As an occasional bathtub masturbator, I find this a tad bit disappointing.

Final thoughts

Lovense is one of the most reliable companies making sex toys right now, if you ask me. I’ve loved many of their previous products, due primarily to their fantastic motors and excellent Bluetooth functionality – and the Domi 2 is no exception.

For myself personally, I tend to reach for wands that are easier to control via their own built-in buttons, so it’s not ideal for me that the Domi requires you to connect it to your phone to access its full range of settings. I also wish it were waterproof and quieter.

But overall I think the Domi 2 is a really solid option for anyone seeking a mini wand that boasts significant power, especially if you have a long-distance sexual connection in your life (or would like to, at some point). It’s not often that I have occasion to recommend a long-distance-compatible wand vibe, but this is the one to get, if you’re looking to get one!

Review: Magic Wand Waterproof

When I interviewed 35 people about the legendary Magic Wand vibrator for my podcast miniseries about it, certain sentiments recurred again and again. For instance, people frequently described it as “dependable” and “reliable,” it was repeatedly compared to jackhammers and Cadillacs, and… you guessed it… almost everyone wished it was waterproof.

Some of them expressed this with a certain guilty reservation, like they felt “greedy” for wanting a famously ultra-powerful vibrator to also stand up to shower sex. How decadent, how maximalist, to imagine bringing earth-shattering power offshore with you into uncharted waters.

Well, guess what? I’m here to tell you that it’s okay to be greedy. It’s okay to be maximalist. It’s okay to want it all. Sometimes you’ll even get what you want – like when Vibratex heeds user feedback and actually makes a waterproof Magic Wand.

Things I like about the Magic Wand Waterproof:

  • It is indeed waterproof! Hurrah! This is worth rejoicing about. I am a bath aficionado and have been known to rub one out in the tub from time to time, and it’s sooo nice to be able to take a super-strong toy in there with me, instead of being relegated to whatever waterproof little clit vibe happens to be charged. (The We-Vibe Tango X is the best one, incase you’re wondering.) It’s also nice to be able to massage my neck and shoulders, etc. while lying in a warm bath, since the heat helps relax my muscles even further. Vibratex even made the buttons on the MWW slightly bigger, perhaps to make them easier to see underwater.
  • Okay, here’s the real bombshell: This is the MOST POWERFUL MAGIC WAND that has EVER EXISTED. Yes, I’m caps-lock shouting at you, because if you take away nothing else from this review, it should be that. This vibrator’s amazingly strong motor might even be its primary selling point, moreso even than its being waterproof. As you can see in the comparison table above, the Magic Wand Original (MWO) tops out at 6,000 RPM, while the Magic Wand Rechargeable (MWR) and Magic Wand Plus (MWP) both go up to 6,300 RPM – but the Magic Wand Waterproof (MWW) has them all beat, maxing out at a whopping 7,000 RPM. Its lowest setting (2,700 RPM) is the same as the lowest setting of the MWR and MWP, but each of its 3 subsequent settings is more powerful than its equivalent in other Magic Wands, with the MWW’s 3rd speed (of 4) being the same as the highest speed of the Magic Wand Original. So, if you love wands but have found that your current Magic Wand doesn’t feel quite powerful enough, the Waterproof might be exactly the upgrade you need.
  • Relatedly: This wand is so strong that it’s given me a greater appreciation for how, contrary to popular belief, sometimes wands are a good pick for days when you’re feeling extra-sensitive, because you can hold them further away from your clit/cock/etc., use them through labia or through underwear, etc. and still feel the vibrations, because of how powerful they are. (JoEllen Notte has also written about this.) I find direct clit stim quite painful so I love how wands are so versatile in this way. When I come with a wand, usually it’s pressed against the side of my clit through two layers of labia and one or two layers of clothing – and even then, this wand feels wildly intense, which brings me to my next point…
  • Oh, the orgasms!! This thing gives me the type of orgasms that make me say “Oh my god” out loud while I’m coming, because the sensations are so unexpectedly strong. (Pretty rare for a professional sex toy reviewer of over 13 years to be surprised by how her own orgasms feel!) Sometimes those orgasms have an element of discomfort or overstimulation to them, as I’ll discuss further below – but the strength of these vibrations, and the Magic Wand’s signature blend of rumbliness with a topcoat of buzz, makes these orgasms awe-inspiring.
  • As with all Magic Wand products, this one feels solidly constructed and well-engineered, its buttons respond quickly and reliably, and it’s overall the sex toy equivalent of a great friend who always keeps their promises.

Things I don’t like about the Magic Wand Waterproof:

  • My biggest issue with the MWW is one of personal taste: it’s a bit too strong for me! The jumps between speeds sometimes feel jarring, partly just because I’m so accustomed to using my MWR instead – but there were several MWW testing sessions where eventually the first speed felt too weak but the second speed felt too strong, and I eventually gave up and switched back to my MWR because its second speed is slightly weaker than the MWW’s (3800 RPMs versus 4200) and thus more enjoyable to me. When I did use the MWW “to completion,” it often left my vulva feeling a bit overstimulated and achy afterward, in the way that ultra-strong vibration tends to.
  • While the official Magic Wand website says that both the MWW and the MWR weigh 1.3 lbs, the MWW feels heavier to me somehow, and my arm gets tired/sore more quickly from holding it. It’s possible that the weight is just distributed differently within the toy (more top-heavy, perhaps?) but in any case, I find the MWW slightly unwieldy compared to the MWR.
  • The blue rubbery cap that fits over the charging port, which presumably is one of the things that makes it waterproof (since the manual warns that the cap must always be on when the MWW is in water), is not attached to the wand itself in any way, and would therefore be easy to drop/lose. I’m not sure what Vibratex would do in that event – some sex toy companies sell individual replacements for parts that are easily misplaced, for instance – but I wish that the problem had been avoided altogether by having the cap be attached to the body of the wand.
  • Unlike the MWR, the MWW cannot be used while charging. This is rarely an issue, especially since the MWW lasts about 2.5 hours on a full charge, but I’ve always liked that when the MWR dies, you can literally just plug it in and keep using it. It guarantees that you’re never left in the lurch, and so I wish every other vibe could have that feature, including the MWW. (Obviously you still wouldn’t be able to use it in water while it’s charging…)
  • Like the MWR before it, the MWW shuts off automatically after 20 minutes of use, to prevent overheating. (You can turn it back on again immediately.) I don’t usually encounter this because I take frequent breaks where I turn the vibe off for a few seconds to manage genital overstimulation throughout a session, but it’s pretty annoying to have to worry about it at all.
  • The MWW is the most expensive product in the Magic Wand lineup, at $200. I imagine this has something to do with the Trump tariffs (sigh). It’s not as pricey as the upscale Doxy Die Cast wand ($215), but it’s also not as powerful (the Die Cast maxes out at 9000 RPM versus the MWW’s 7000). That being said, the MWW does bring value to the table that’ll make it worth the high price for some users, namely its waterproofness and its added motor strength.
  • I’m sure there are valid engineering-related reasons this cannot be, but I wish the MWW and MWR used the same charger, just for convenience’s sake. Alas, they do not.

Final thoughts

I’m thrilled to have a Magic Wand Waterproof in my collection, particularly for those times when I’m craving a bathtub wank and don’t want to have to compromise on power. It didn’t end up being my personal favorite product in the Magic Wand lineup, though; that title is still held by the legendary Magic Wand Rechargeable, because I’m sensitive enough that the MWW’s jumps in power felt too big for my delicate, picky clit. I also love being able to use the MWR while it’s charging, so it never gives up the ghost mid-session, a feature that the MWW lacks.

But I think a lot of people will absolutely love the MWW. It opens up entirely new avenues of play, both because it’s waterproof and because it’s even stronger than its predecessors. Diehard Magic Wand devotees will enjoy the added power and versatility – although I’m not sure I’d recommend the MWW as a gateway for a first-time wand user, because of how strong it is.

Overall, though? Look. It’s been a tough year so far, to say the fucking least. Global slide into fascism. Queer and trans people existentially threatened. Climate change lapping at our heels. And on and on.

So when something actually good happens these days, I feel it’s my responsibility to shout it from the top of a mountain… [Ron Burgundy voice] but I don’t have a mountain; I have a sex blog, and so it is here that I must say to you: the Magic Wand Waterproof exists, and it is good. It’s the most powerful Magic Wand that’s ever been made. It is the answer to our vibrator prayers. Good things still can happen in this godforsaken world. 🪄

Review: We-Vibe Wand 2

Yep, I’m reviewing another wand. Can’t stop, won’t stop, baby!

Sex toy companies around the globe are always cranking out new wands, because this genre of toy is so popular. But it’s relatively rare that a new wand comes out which I’m actually excited about. The We-Vibe Wand 2 is definitely one of those wands.

As you might have intuited by the “2” at the end of its name, the Wand 2 is an updated version of We-Vibe’s first wand, which they released back in 2019. At the time, I liked it, but didn’t love it – its vibrations were powerful and rumbly, but its intensity was controlled via a joystick-esque button that could be hard to operate, so it didn’t earn a spot in my regular wand rotation.

However, the new Wand 2 has gone back to traditional buttons. It’s also 30 grams lighter and 1.4 inches shorter than the original Wand.

Oh, and it makes me come super hard. (You can listen to the first orgasm I ever had with it, if you don’t believe me.) Let’s talk about the We-Vibe Wand 2!

Things I like about the We-Vibe Wand 2

  • Let’s not bury the lede: this is one of the strongest and rumbliest vibrators I’ve ever tried. It makes me come easily, quickly, and hard, even on its low-to-middle intensity settings, because of how rumbly it is. On its highest setting, the Wand 2 feels stronger than the Fun Factory Vim, though not as rumbly. Its upper settings are rumblier than the Magic Wand Rechargeable‘s, though not quite as strong – I’d say that the highest speed of the MWR just barely exceeds the We-Vibe Wand 2‘s power output. Overall, I’m really, really impressed with this wand’s vibration strength and quality – and my clit enthusiastically agrees!
  • This vibe has 10 intensity levels and 10 vibration patterns; each pattern can be used at any of the 10 intensity levels as well. This gives you a ton of variety to play around with.
  • The controls scheme is easy to pick up: the plus and minus buttons can be held down to turn the toy on or off, respectively, and are also used to change the vibration intensity. The left and right arrow buttons are used to cycle through patterns (which is great, because it means that those of us who prefer steady vibration won’t accidentally stumble into pattern-land). The squiggle button can be held down for 2 seconds to turn Smart Silence on or off (more on that later).
  • While the potatoey shape of the Wand 2’s head is baffling at first glance, it’s surprisingly versatile in use. It’s rounded on one side, but the other side offers more pinpointed edges for those who prefer that type of stimulation (like me!). I find myself experimenting with different angles a lot when using this toy, because the vibration can feel quite different depending on what specific part of the wand’s head is touching your body.
  • Nearly the entire toy is encased in a soft, smooth, matte silicone that plays well with water-based lube and feels sexy to the touch.
  • The curved shape of this wand feels more ergonomic than a straight one, and also makes it easier for me to direct this toy’s vibrations onto my neck/shoulders/etc. for massaging sore muscles.
  • This toy is fully waterproof! That’s extremely rare for a wand this powerful. I could see this being a wonderful bathtime companion.
  • You can connect this toy to the We-Vibe app and control it that way, or even cede control to a long-distance partner. I don’t tend to use wands this way, but I’m glad the option exists!
  • It’s quiet! …for a wand. By which I mean: it would be audible from across a room, but probably not through a closed door, which is more than I can say for many other wands as powerful as this one.

Things I don’t like about the We-Vibe Wand 2

  • There’s a weird thing that happens around the 5th or 6th speed (of 10) where the ultra-rumbly vibrations will seem to glitch out, becoming noticeably buzzier all of a sudden, without me having pressed any additional buttons. The Lelo Smart Wand had this same issue, and I find it just as jarring in the We-Vibe Wand. Now, granted, even the glitched-out, buzzier speed is plenty strong and rumbly enough to get me off, so once I recover from the surprise of my vibrator seeming to malfunction, I just continue using it and it’s fine… but I wish this wouldn’t happen at all.
  • A significant amount of vibration transmits into the handle of the toy, which can feel a bit annoying for my hand/fingers after a while.
  • This toy has We-Vibe’s “Smart Silence” feature, wherein the toy senses whether it’s touching your skin or not, and automatically turns off when you lift it away from your body, then turns back on when it makes contact again. Some people might like this feature, but I find it a bit glitchy and temperamental, so I turned it off by holding down the squiggle button for 2 seconds.
  • I don’t love the look of this wand. It’s “sad purple,” and the (admittedly innovatively-shaped) head just doesn’t look as sexy or sophisticated as some other wands do.

Final thoughts

If you want sheer power above everything else, I’d still direct you to get a Doxy Die Cast (which plugs into the wall) or a Magic Wand Rechargeable (which can be used either plugged in or not), as those both edge out the We-Vibe Wand 2 in terms of vibration strength – albeit not by much.

However: the We-Vibe Wand 2 has the benefit of being very nearly as strong as those other behemoths, and much rumblier than both – not to mention, a whole lot quieter. And unlike the comparably rumbly Fun Factory Vim, the Wand 2 is fully waterproof. It also has a smooth head that’s gentler on the skin and easier to wash than the Vim’s ridgey one.

I have some minor quibbles with the Wand 2, including that one strange mechanical glitch, which doesn’t even stop me from coming (and coming hard!) with this toy. I also wish it weren’t quite so expensive.

But overall, I think this is an absolutely stellar wand. It’s strong as hell, rumbly as fuck, easy to use, waterproof, relatively quiet, and lives up to We-Vibe’s reputation as makers of high-quality vibrators.

Review: Romulus Shop Olympia 10-Speed Wand

This was a fear I professed to my spouse while I was working on my miniseries about the Magic Wand, Making Magic. Some actors worry about getting typecast after a well-reviewed turn as a nerd or a cad; similarly, I was worried about becoming known forever as that gal who loves wand vibes.

But now, having reflected on it more, I kinda think: it’s fine. There are worse legacies I could have.

And I’m not just saying that because the wand girl gets sent a lot of wands, I swear.

 

What is the Romulus Shop Olympia 10-Speed Wand?

Like many sex toy stores I love, Romulus Shop carries a mix of classic, well-known shapes, and wild, out-there designs. Ever wanted to have your G-spot tapped while your clit is getting sucked? They’ve got a toy for that. How about a hairjob from Medusa? They’ve got a toy for that. Glass anal beads? Yep, they’ve got those, too. (I haven’t tried them and can’t personally attest to whether they’re good, but… whoa. Glass anal beads?!?)

However, in this case, I’m reviewing a tamer product: a humble wand. You know ’em, you love ’em; they’re the original muscle-massager-turned-orgasm-implement, and they tend to offer some of the strongest vibrations around. The Olympia is the most classic wand that Romulus Shop carries.

Things I like about the Olympia Wand

  • To me, the most impressive thing about this wand – especially for its low price point – is that each of its 10 vibration modes has 5 different intensity settings. Usually, on cheap vibrators, you’re lucky if you get 3 different steady vibration intensities plus a handful of patterns – but this wand gives you a steady vibration mode + 9 pattern modes, all of which have 5 different intensity levels to choose from. This gives each pattern way more versatility and makes it likelier for me to actually use patterns, because (for example) I can start with a low, rumbling pulse and work my way up to a high-powered pulse, without needing to interrupt the flow by cycling through other patterns.
  • The lowest intensity has a nice vibration quality; I’d say it’s buzzy but leaning rumbly, and I find that it works well for building arousal. However, as I’ll describe later, I’m less thrilled with the buzziness of the higher intensities. But in terms of sheer power (i.e. vibration strength, rather than vibration quality/pitch), I’d say this one is pretty middle-of-the-road for a wand – decently strong but not wildly so.
  • The wand’s neck is very bendable in all directions, and the vibrations don’t weaken or cut out when the neck gets bent in this way, in my experience (although I’m sure, as with all wands, there is an amount of pressure that would eventually break it).
  • It’s pretty light, compared to other wands of its size. It feels like it’s maybe half the weight of the Magic Wand Rechargeable, if not lighter. There was a time when I would’ve considered this a drawback, since lighter toys can feel insubstantial and low-quality – but now that I live with chronic pain and strength issues in my hands/arms (among other places), it’s actually helpful for me when a toy doesn’t weigh much, because it means I can hold it for longer without getting tired, and can easily maneuver it to different spots around my vulva.
  • At first, I was concerned to see that the toy didn’t come with instructions – but its controls are actually fairly simple. You hold down the power button to turn the toy on or off, and then short-press that same button to cycle through vibration modes. The plus and minus buttons control the vibration intensity.
  • It’s waterproof! Yay! That’s unusual for a full-size wand like this one. Always nice to be able to use a toy in the shower or bath, or even just to be able to wash it in the sink without worrying you’ll ruin it.
  • At the time that I’m writing this, it’s on sale for $31.90 USD (or $46 CAD), which is pretty damn good for a full-size, rechargeable wand vibrator made of non-porous, body-safe materials.

Things I don’t like about the Olympia Wand

  • The biggest problem with this toy is the vibration quality. I genuinely like the lowest of the 5 intensity levels, as I mentioned above, but levels 2 through 5 get progressively buzzier, resulting (for me) in the temporary clitoral desensitization that happens with high-pitched vibrations like these. I can’t get off with buzzy vibes like this unless I either physically move the toy in circles against me the whole time, or rush through the process so I come before most of the desensitization sets in.
  • It’s loud, even for a wand. My Apple Watch measured it at 71 decibels, while the Magic Wand Rechargeable tops out at about 50. With the Olympia, someone standing outside my bedroom door would likely be able to tell I was using a vibrator… although I will say that it gets a bit quieter when it’s pressed against my body and/or used under blankets.
  • Personal pet peeve: when you first turn it on, it always starts at the 3rd intensity level out of 5 – so if, like me, you prefer to work your way up from the lowest speed, you’ll have to manually turn it down every time you turn it on.

Final thoughts

The buzziness and loudness of this wand make it less than ideal for me, so the main reason I’d recommend it to someone is if price was a major factor for them. (It’s a very valid factor!)

So, here are some questions to ask yourself. Are you looking for a super budget-friendly wand? Do you enjoy, or just not particularly mind, buzzy/high-pitched vibrations? Are you okay with your toy being somewhat loud? If you said yes to all three, then I think the Romulus Shop Olympia Wand is worth considering. A wand vibe can be a versatile addition to just about anyone’s toy collection, because of all the many ways it can be used solo or with a partner, and I love that there are body-safe options available under $40, like the Olympia, so that strong vibrations are financially accessible to more people. This wand also has the benefits of being waterproof and very light and easy to wield.

I guess I am the wand girl, because I want everyone to be able to afford a wand if they want one. And to that end, I’m glad the Olympia exists.
