Review: Lovense Velvo rabbit vibrator w/ rotating beads

What is the Lovense Velvo?

Lovense, makers of great long-distance sex toys, recently added the Velvo to their lineup. It’s a rabbit vibrator, a.k.a. a dual-stimulation vibrator, meaning that it targets two different erogenous zones at once – in this case, the clitoris and the G-spot. The external arm vibrates against your clit, while the internal arm massages your G-spot in an undulating motion with rotating rows of silicone-covered beads.

Like all Lovense toys, this one connects wirelessly to Lovense’s app on your phone, which you can use to control the toy yourself from a short distance, or to invite a far-away partner to control your toy with their phone. The Velvo is made of silicone and electroplated plastic, is IPX7 waterproof, and currently retails for $119.

Things I like about the Lovense Velvo:

  • Rotating beads: This feature is the thing that sets the Velvo apart from all Lovense’s other products, and it’s great. The beads’ rotation feels like someone is massaging my G-spot in a circular motion, which I happen to adore (the first time I ever squirted with a partner was actually achieved via this fingering method!). There are some mechanical issues with this feature, which I’ll discuss more below, but it works just fine most of the time, and feels fantastic in a highly unusual way. You can even hold down the rotation button for a few seconds to reverse the direction of the rotation when you want to mix things up.
  • Flexible clitoral arm: The bendiness of the Velvo’s external arm allows it to be positioned in various places on/around the clitoris, as per your preferences (e.g. on the clitoral hood, to the side of the clit, or directly on the tip). It also allows the arm to remain in contact with your clit even if you thrust the toy in and out a bit, which I sometimes like to do, especially when I’m getting close to coming. The arm’s flexibility also means it can almost certainly reach your clit no matter how big or small the distance may be between your clit and vaginal opening.
  • Good clit vibrations: I’ve come to expect Lovense’s vibrators to be strong and rumbly, and this one is no exception. The vibrations do get slightly buzzier as you turn up the power, but they never feel annoying or numbing. The clit arm is the most important part of a rabbit vibrator, for me and for many other users, so I’m delighted Lovense got this one so right.
  • Independently controllable arms: As should be standard for rabbit vibrators, this one allows you to control each arm separately from the other – either via Lovense’s app or via the buttons on the toy itself. So if your clit suddenly wants more stimulation than your G-spot (or vice-versa), you can make that happen.
  • App functionalities/Long-distance capabilities: As always with Lovense toys, I gotta shout out their app, which is overflowing with useful features for long-distance connection. Your partner can be thousands of miles away and can still control your vibe with their phone, as long as they have internet access. You can chat with them via text, voice, or video directly within the app. You can also sync up the vibrations to music/sound, create your own vibration patterns, and try other people’s custom patterns. And if your partner has a Lovense toy of their own, you can make your toys “talk to each other” in various ways – e.g. thrusting the Velvo faster/harder makes your partner’s Max 2 stroker vibrate more intensely. Highly recommend using Lovense toys during phone sex; I do it frequently and it’s always fun!
  • Dimensions: I found the Velvo’s dimensions to be satisfying and never overwhelming, unlike those of some other beaded rabbit vibes I tried back in the day. The Velvo’s shaft has an insertable length of 5.35″ – plenty long enough to reach just about anyone’s G-spot and massage the area around it, too – with a diameter of 1.42″.
  • Waterproof: Love that the Velvo is IPX7 waterproof, so I can use it in the shower or bath, and can easily wash it in the sink without fear of ruining it.

Things I don’t like about the Lovense Velvo:

  • Weakened by pressure: Not to brag, but my vag muscles clamp down pretty tightly when I’m nearing orgasm (an FWB once said that fingering me is “like wrestling a little monster”), and I noticed that the Velvo’s beads slowed to almost a full halt when that started to happen. It doesn’t ruin my orgasm, per se, because the clit vibrations keep going and I can continue manually thrusting the toy through my orgasm – but it does limit how “blended” the orgasm can feel, since the G-spot stimulation eases up right when I want it to double down instead.
  • Occasionally glitchy: You’re supposed to hold down the rotation button for 3 seconds if you want to change the direction of the rotation, but I found that sometimes my Velvo would just randomly switch directions on its own, without me pressing anything. Sometimes that sudden change would distract from my pleasure, and I imagine it could quasi-ruin an orgasm if it happened during one, too.
  • Only 3 pre-programmed clit vibration speeds: When using Lovense toys by myself (as opposed to with a long-distance partner), I’ll often control them using just the buttons on the toy, since that’s easier/simpler/quicker – and when using the Velvo that way, I found that it only has 3 pre-programmed speeds of clitoral vibration, which is not enough. Typically I like a toy to have at least 5, ideally 8-10, so that I can escalate the intensity gradually throughout a session without any jarringly big jumps between speeds.
  • Straight shaft: To me it seems strange to make a G-spot toy with no curve at all. Sure, the rotating beads are the star of the show, but I think they’d feel even more impactful in a curved shape. The lack of a curve is probably why this toy hasn’t been able to make me squirt, despite how good the beads feel against my G-spot. I would’ve also loved if this toy could hit my A-spot when thrusted deep inside me, since the combo of G-spot + A-spot + clit stim usually leads to some amazing orgasms for me – but it’s lacking the curve it would need to achieve that.
  • Noisy: This is common for toys that rotate or do other motion-heavy mechanical functions, but the Velvo’s rotation feature makes a sound I described in my scribbly testing notes as “witchy shrieking.” 🧙‍♀️ It’s not wildly loud, but the sound is repetitive and has a high-pitched quality that some folks might find grating.
  • Can’t easily be used hands-free: Whether for multi-tasking reasons, disability reasons, or just laziness reasons, you might sometimes want to use a rabbit vibe hands-free, and this one doesn’t quite work for that purpose. Eventually the rotation motion always makes the toy slip out of me and/or makes the clitoral arm lose contact with my clit. Bracing the toy against a pillow between my legs helps somewhat.
  • Relatively short battery life: It’s normal for dual-stimulation vibes to run out of power quicker than toys with only one function, but the Velvo’s battery life is even shorter than that of Lovense’s other rabbits – you get up to 78 minutes of play time from a 110-minute charge.

Final thoughts

When it comes to the Lovense Velvo, I’m torn… On the one hand, it can easily get me off, and feels excellent when it does so. The rotating beads feel like a partner’s fingers massaging my G-spot, the clitoral arm’s rumbly vibrations are plenty powerful enough for me, and the toy works well whether I thrust it in and out or just hold it still inside me.

On the other hand, for the Velvo’s $119 price tag, I would hope that any mechanical issues would have been ironed out – but I experienced some glitching and stalling when I put this toy through its paces. It also drives me nuts that there are only 3 pre-programmed clit vibration speeds, meaning that I always need to either control the toy with my phone (which allows for more granular control over vibration strength) or resign myself to startlingly big jumps in intensity when I turn it up.

Overall, for my particular preferences and anatomy, I’m a bigger fan of Lovense’s other rabbits – the A-spot-stroking Nora and the G-spot-tapping Osci 3 – than I am of the Velvo. But I still think the Velvo is an impressive achievement on Lovense’s part, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt anything quite like those rotating beads before. If you want a G-spot-focused dual-stimulation toy to use solo or with a long-distance partner, the Velvo is well worth considering!

How to Give a Ton of Pleasure with a Long-Distance Sex Toy

I have had a lot of phone sex in my life. Like, a lot. At this point it’s quite possible I’ve had phone sex more times than I’ve had in-person sex. Being in a long-distance relationship for over 7 years will do that to a person! (Or at least, to an aurally-inclined person like myself…)

In that time, I’ve learned a lot about how to make phone sex as hot as possible – and some of my favorite innovations in that regard are toys by Lovense. Many other brands have attempted to make toys that can be controlled from a distance, but none so successfully as Lovense, if you ask me. Their toys have more reliable connectivity than any others I’ve tried, their app is thoughtfully designed, and their catalogue offers tons of stimulation options for people of various anatomies, genders, and preferences.

The last time I made someone come using a Lovense toy, she gasped out afterward, “You should write an article about how you do that!” I’m sure that different people have different approaches, but my style of Lovense-topping has always been well-received (so to speak), and so I feel qualified to advise on this! Without further ado, for your enjoyment and edification, here are six quick tips for giving someone maximal pleasure with a Lovense toy…

 

1. Hop on an audio call

You could use a Lovense toy on somebody without being able to hear them, but in my view, that would be much harder and much less hot! As with IRL sex, someone’s noises can give you a lot of guidance about what’s working and what’s not, and are also just sexy as hell.

Lovense’s app has a built-in voice-call feature, but feel free to use whatever audio functionality you and your partner(s) prefer – I tend to do audio-only FaceTime calls, for instance. Most audio-call apps will sound a hell of a lot better than a regular ol’ phone call, which is often so low-quality that you can’t hear important subtleties like how fast somebody is breathing.

 

2. Set the toy to ‘float’ mode

By default, Lovense toys are set to automatically return to 0% power output if you take your finger off the touchscreen of your phone (or whatever other device you’re using the Lovense app on). This can be useful in certain situations, like for “tease & denial” play – but mostly I prefer to enable “float” mode, which keeps the vibration at the level you left it at, even if you put your device down to grab some lube, touch yourself, take a selfie, etc.

 

3. Start low & slow

Vibration is a wonderful thing, but it can be overwhelming, especially early on in the arousal process. If you crank up the vibration too quickly, you risk overstimulating your partner, which could cause discomfort, pain, or temporary numbness. That stuff is hot for people who are specifically into overstimulation (a.k.a. “orgasm torture”), but the rest of us will probably want to start with gentle vibration and work our way up gradually. That’ll preserve as much sensitivity as possible, allowing for greater heights of pleasure.

 

4. Create the illusion of motion

Okay, this might be the real secret to my success as a Lovense top… Throughout a session, I’ll usually wiggle my finger up and down on my phone’s touchscreen, rather than keeping the vibration fixed at one level. I’ll increase and decrease the overall intensity as needed over the course of the session, rarely holding my finger completely still for longer than a few seconds. This is because the body gets accustomed to vibration after a bit, and so a steady, unchanging vibration can start to feel less stimulating over time (especially with buzzy/high-pitched vibration, more often found on the high end of Lovense toys’ power range).

Because of this principle, slight undulations up and down tend to make the vibration feel more impactful and less numbing. They also create the tactile illusion of motion – the slight oscillation makes penile vibration feel more like someone is actually stroking/riding you, for instance, while rhythmic stimulation of the G-spot can feel almost like human fingers massaging that spot. (I’ve even squirted from having the Lush used on me in this way!)

You can experiment with different types of motion at different times – for example, I prefer to move up and down a larger distance as someone gets closer to orgasm, because it seems to more closely resemble the way you’ll often instinctively fuck someone harder as they’re about to come.

 

5. Talk dirty

Sure, you could do a Lovense scene in total silence, or just listen to your partner’s moans… but 91% of people are turned on by dirty talk, so it tends to make sex hotter, the way salt makes food taste better. Dirty talk is also useful in closing the gap when having phone sex – it helps you stay mentally connected to your partner, by sharing a mutual sexual fantasy through your words. Vibration can sometimes feel coldly mechanical on its own, but may feel a lot better when, through the magic of dirty talk, you’re thinking of the vibrator as your partner’s hand or tongue or cock.

It might take some practice to get used to operating the Lovense app while talking dirty – but the better that you get at each separate skill, the easier it’ll be to combine them, and even to get into a sweet sweet flow state while doing so!

 

6. Don’t forget aftercare!

Phone sex really isn’t that different from in-person sex. Both can involve intimacy, pleasure, orgasms, big releases of neurochemicals like dopamine and oxytocin, and potentially complicated feelings. Just as I might feel empty and sad if someone rolled out of bed right after sex and left without a word, I similarly struggle when a partner unceremoniously ends a call (or falls asleep!) too soon after phone sex.

Aftercare is unique to each person/couple, so you should discuss aftercare preferences with your partner(s). For some, it may be as simple and quick as reminding each other to drink some water and then saying goodnight. Others may prefer some lovey-dovey pillow talk, or each whipping up a midnight snack together over the phone, or even “sleeping together” all night via speakerphone. Aww, cute!

Review: Lovense Exomoon lipstick vibrator

What is the Lovense Exomoon?

Reviewing a lipstick-shaped pressure-wave toy earlier this week made me realize – I’ve never reviewed the lipstick-shaped Lovense Exomoon vibe, even though it’s one of my favorite clitoral vibrators released in the last decade!

As far as Lovense toys go, this one is pretty simple. It’s basically just your standard bullet vibrator, except that it’s made to look like a lipstick, complete with red tapered tip and sleek removable cap. But it’s a great vibrator, and is easily the best lipstick-esque sex toy I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. Let’s discuss its many benefits and its very few shortcomings…

Things I like about the Lovense Exomoon:

  • Strong: These vibrations are impressively powerful, especially for such a petite vibe. I’ve taken the Exomoon with me while traveling on many occasions, and have never felt disappointed that I didn’t bring a bigger/stronger vibe instead, because the Exomoon has always gotten the job done. Its tip is made of silicone, but it’s firm enough that it doesn’t dull the vibrations, as with something like the squishy-tipped We-Vibe Touch X.
  • Rumbly-ish: While it definitely gets buzzier the more that you turn it up, for the most part the Exomoon vibrates at a satisfyingly rumbly (i.e. low-pitched) frequency. It’s not as rumbly as my beloved We-Vibe Tango X, but it’s still notably rumbly for its size, and can easily get me off, sometimes even through a layer or two of clothing, due to how stimulating it is.
  • Price: The Exomoon retails for $79, which is slightly cheaper than the comparable and excellent We-Vibe Tango X ($85). Sure, it’s pricier than your average bullet, but most bullets are buzzy and cheap-feeling (especially those that use disposable batteries), whereas both the Exomoon and Tango X feel high-quality and have a robust, rumbly motor that makes them worth the money.
  • Angled tip: Like the Tango X (and like most actual lipsticks), the Exomoon has an angled tip that tapers to a point. This gives you many different sensation options, depending on how you hold the toy. I mostly place the flat bit against my clitoral hood or inner labia for some indirect stimulation, but folks who prefer more intense/pinpointed sensations could use the very tip of the toy, whereas those who prefer broader sensations could just lay the toy flat against their junk.
  • Waterproof: The Exomoon is IPX7 waterproof, so you can use it in the shower, bath, etc. without issue – and I have!
  • Battery life: The Exomoon lasts up to 3 hours on a 2-hour charge. That’s notably longer than the comparable Tango X‘s 2-hour runtime, although the Tango takes only 90 minutes to charge.
  • Small & lightweight: The Exomoon’s tiny size allows it to fit neatly between bodies during sex. I also never struggle to hold onto the Exomoon, even on bad hand pain days.
  • Portable: Not only is the Exomoon small enough to easily be tucked into a pocket or purse; it also has a lipstick-like cap that helps protect the business end from dirt/dust in transit. I wish it also had a travel lock function, though.
  • Discreet: Unlike most other lipstick-esque sex toys, the Exomoon could actually be mistaken for a lipstick if someone spotted it in your bag or on your nightstand, so you wouldn’t be immediately outing yourself as owning as a vibrator.
  • Long-distance controllable: I don’t tend to use clitoral vibes this way because I like to control them myself, but it’s good to know that the Exomoon, like most other Lovense products, can be used long-distance via Lovense’s fantastic app.
  • Same charger as other Lovense toys: Surprisingly few sex toy companies do this – Lovense uses the same charging cable for most of their toys, including this one. May not matter to you if you only ever intend to own one Lovense toy, but if you own multiples, this is super convenient, especially when traveling.

Things I don’t like about the Lovense Exomoon:

  • Only 3 steady speeds: If you’re just using the Exomoon as-is without connecting it to the Lovense app on your phone, you can press its one button to cycle through 3 steady speeds followed by 4 patterns. I strongly prefer vibes to have at least 8 steady speeds (as the Tango X does), since it allows for a more gradual/less jarring experience – but at least I can vary the vibration strength more minutely using the app when I really want to.
  • Noisy-ish: While not ridiculously loud, the Exomoon is louder than I’d prefer/expect of a vibe this size. I measured its decibel level using my Apple Watch and found that it tops out at about 61 db (roughly the volume of a dishwasher), whereas the Tango X never gets above 45 db (somewhere between a refrigerator and moderate rainfall). The Exomoon also sounds buzzier/more high-pitched than the Tango, so the noise is more noticeable and marginally more grating.
  • Name: You know I’m grasping at straws to come up with downsides when I bring up something as trivial as a product’s name! Seriously though, I don’t get why Lovense’s lipstick vibe is named after “a natural satellite that orbits an exoplanet or other non-stellar extrasolar body” instead of something lipstick-related. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Final thoughts

I’m a big fan of the Lovense Exomoon! I think it’s a solid, decently-priced clitoral vibrator, with a fun aesthetic that’s cute without being cutesy. It’s strong and rumbly enough to always be able to get me off, and portable enough that I’ve taken it with me on many overnight stays and vacations.

I wish its presets included more than 3 steady speeds, and that it was a bit quieter. As-is, I think the We-Vibe Tango X is a slightly better vibe on most dimensions, so I would generally recommend that one instead. But if you prefer the Exomoon’s lipstick-y look, and/or you want the long-distance controllability offered by Lovense toys, I think the Exomoon is well worth considering. It gets my seal of approval! 💋

My current fave in the Lovense lineup, this one is comfy, quiet, and deliciously rumbly. My G-spot is very picky when it comes to vibration, but the deep resonance and wide range of these vibrations make it feel wonderful, even throughout lengthy sessions lasting up to 2 hours (!!). This toy is so well-shaped for G-spot stimulation that it can even make me squirt. Pretty amazing stuff.

Review: Lovense Spinel app-controlled thrusting sex machine

What is the Lovense Spinel sex machine?

Regular readers of this blog already know that I adore sex toys made by Lovense, the leading company in the long-distance sex toys game. I was in an LDR with my wife for over 7 years before we were finally able to move in together, and I’m also newly dating someone who lives 2,500 miles from me, so trust me when I say: I have put these toys through their paces, and they hold up.

The Spinel is the latest release from this innovative company. It’s described as an “app-controlled multi-attachment thrusting vibrating & heating sex machine.” As you may know, a “sex machine” is traditionally a big, bulky behemoth that can piston a dildo in and out of you at top speeds. With the Spinel, however, Lovense is trying to bring you sex-machine-level power, at a way lower price point and smaller size than most of the classic sex machines.

The Spinel consists of many different parts, which can be paired and swapped out in various ways:

  • A base unit, which powers the thrusting and has buttons on it that can be used to control the toy in lieu of using the Lovense app
  • A “G-curve” attachment, which is shaped to target the G-spot with its deep curve and its broad, flat head
  • Another attachment which is straighter, longer, has some lightly rippled texture along its shaft, and can additionally heat up and vibrate (which the G-curve attachment cannot)
  • A “clitoral base” attachment which can be optionally paired with either of the other two attachments, to rub against your clit with each thrust
  • A detachable, angle-adjustable suction cup stand, which enables you to affix the toy to a flat, hard surface (like a shower wall or tile floor) for hands-free use
  • A detachable, angle-adjustable handle for handheld usage

Things I like about the Lovense Spinel

  • Strong, fast thrusting: If you like to get well-and-truly railed, you’ll probably enjoy this toy. Its thrusting is much stronger and more decisive than something like a Fun Factory Stronic (RIP). Whether I’m targeting my G-spot with the “G-curve” attachment, or massaging my whole upper vaginal wall and A-spot with the straight-but-gently-rippled attachment, the thrusting feels really good. Pairing it with a good clit vibe leads to some intense orgasms, and this toy can even make me squirt. Yay!
  • Modular parts: I love how much customizability you get with the Spinel. You can use either of its two penetrative attachments, swapping them out as desired, and can also pair either/both of them with the included “clitoral base attachment” to add some clit stim into the mix (although it didn’t work so well for me – more on that later). The removable attachments also make this toy easy to wash – you can clean the attachments with soap and water, without having to get the base unit wet (it’s only splashproof, not fully waterproof, and only when the charging port cap is on).
  • Multiple functions: The intense thrusting served up by the Spinel would be enough on its own for many users, but it also has a heating function and a vibration function, albeit only when you’re using the non-curved attachment (the curved one only thrusts, for some reason). The vibration is nice: rumbly, good range of intensities, and doesn’t distract too much from the main event, the thrusting.
  • App controllability: As with all the other Lovense toys I’ve tried, this one connects quickly and easily via Bluetooth to Lovense’s app, which enables you to control the toy yourself or hand over control to a long-distance partner, among numerous other functionalities. In the Spinel’s case, you can control the vibration strength and thrusting speed independently from one another – although, if you’re using the “G-curve” attachment, you can only control thrusting, since that one doesn’t vibrate.
  • Noise level: It’s surprisingly and unprecedentedly quiet for a fucking machine. Usually they whir and creak intolerably, but this one just sounds like the gentle thwack-thwack-thwack of far-away helicopter rotors, even when you turn up the thrusting to high speeds.
  • Multiple ways to hold (or not hold) it: The Spinel’s removable suction-cup base works great, and it’s easy to adjust the angle the way you want it. It also comes with a different, handle-shaped base for those who prefer using toys in a handheld way. When using the non-curved attachment, I tended to just hold the base unit in my hand without a handle or base, and that worked well too. These different options for holding the toy (or using it hands-free) make it a lot more versatile, not to mention much more accessible for people who struggle with chronic pain/muscle weakness/etc. like me.
  • Portability: The Spinel is way smaller than your standard-issue sex machine, and could therefore be carted around to sex dates, vacations, etc. I wish that it came with a nicer bag or box to carry around all its various components in, but the box it came in works fine for this purpose. The Spinel is a good option for anyone who wants a fucking machine but doesn’t have much living space to spare.
  • Price: As far as fucking machines and thrusters go, the Spinel is (I think) fairly priced, at $199. It delivers a lot of thrusting power, and includes a versatile set of attachments and accessories, which makes it a particularly good deal compared to other high-powered thrusting toys like the Hismith Premium 3.0 ($420), the VVD Sex Saddle ($350), and the Velvet Thruster ($255).
  • Turbo mode: The Spinel’s “turbo mode” instantly speeds up the thrusting to 150% of its current speed, regardless of what setting you’re on. Normally I don’t like this type of feature because it’s usually implemented in a way that makes it too easy to trigger accidentally, but in the Spinel’s case, you can only activate this mode by either holding down the thruster button on the base unit for 3 seconds, or tapping-and-holding for 3 seconds on a specific part of the app interface. This pretty much ensures that the toy only goes “turbo mode” when you actually want it to – such as during the lead-up to orgasm, when it could be most useful.
  • Aesthetic: The Spinel’s base unit features a pale pink-and-blue gradient which I really dig (trans pride flag colors, anyone?). When it’s set up on its suction-cup base, it almost looks like a fancy podcast mic…
  • USB-C charging: Most Lovense toys use a proprietary charger instead, so it’s nice for once that I could charge this toy with the same charger I use for my laptop if need be.

Things I don’t like about the Lovense Spinel

  • Clitoral base attachment: While it’s an awesome idea to include a clit-stimulating attachment with a toy like this (since, as I’ve written here countless times before, the majority of people with vulvas require clit stimulation to reach orgasm), in practice there is very little distance between the penetrative part of the toy and its clitoral stimulator, so the clit part ends up bumping my urethra/the underside of my clitoral shaft instead. It pummels that area pretty intensely, because of the strength of the toy’s thrusting, which isn’t my jam but might be somebody else’s.
  • Too fast: This is very much a matter of personal taste, but the Spinel’s lowest thrusting speed is faster than most humans could sustain. Could be great for you if you enjoy really fast thrusting (and I know lots of people do!), but I am a person who often says “Slower, please!” while partners are fingerbanging me (for instance), so I always wish there were some slow-but-hard thrusting settings on these things. I also find that the Spinel’s thrusts feel less impactful the more you increase the thrusting speed – as with many other thrusters, it just starts to feel like vibration after a while.
  • Sometimes stalls out: If I try to push the toy too deep inside me, or hold onto its handle too firmly, sometimes the mechanics stall out, interrupting the rhythm of the thrusting. The toy will then work extra hard to catch up, so the next few thrusts afterward are jarringly firm.
  • Slightly finicky setup: I’d recommend keeping the instructions handy the first few times you switch out attachments, etc., as it’s a little tricky to figure out initially, although pretty easy and fast thereafter.
  • Issues with the handle base: Try as I might, I wasn’t physically able to push down the button which presumably allows you to change the toy’s angle while using the handheld handle – but, as I mentioned, I have a disability which affects muscle strength, so maybe the average person would be able to do it. Sucked to not be able to use what would otherwise be a rad accessibility feature, though! Additionally, when you try to use the handle at the same time as the non-curved dildo attachment, the handle faces away from the person being penetrated – so it’s really more useful for partnered play than for solo play.
  • Probably not anal-safe: Listen, you could try it… but I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s always a chance, albeit a tiny one, that the attachment could untwist, pop off, and get stuck in you. Stick to vaginal use for this one.
  • Long charging time: You have to charge the Spinel for 2 hours and 40 minutes to get it fully juiced up, which is longer than most other Lovense toys take to charge (makes sense, given the power of the Spinel’s thrusts!). That charge will last you a maximum of 4 hours and 17 minutes.
  • Charging port cap: Much like my otherwise-beloved Magic Wand Waterproof, the Spinel has a silicone cap which covers its charging port, but which is not attached to the body of the toy in any way. This makes it super easy to lose the cap (in fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve already lost mine), which renders the base unit non-waterproof, so you’ll need to take extra care to avoid getting water in the charging port when cleaning. On the plus side, Lovense does include one spare charging port cap in the box incase you lose yours too.
  • Can only use included attachments: Since there are some fucking machines (like the Hismith mentioned above) that let you use dildo attachments from any brand that makes compatible ones, it feels worth mentioning that the Spinel can only be used with the two attachments Lovense makes for it, at least currently. These attachments top out at a 1.53″ diameter and 5.29″ insertable length, so users who prefer larger penetration are outta luck.

Final thoughts

I’ve been particularly adoring Lovense toys recently, as they enable me to connect with long-distance sweethearts almost as intimately as if we were in the same room together. My favorite lately has been the Lush Mini, which satisfies my G-spot just fine, most of the time… but there are other times when that spot craves to get truly and utterly fucked, in which case a powerful sex machine like the Spinel can give me what I want.

For myself personally, I found it a bit too fast, and wished it had some slower settings… but the Spinel has so many features to recommend it, like its versatile modularity, amazingly low noise level, small form factor, and accessibility for folks who struggle to thrust a dildo themselves. It’s also way more reasonably priced than a lot of sex machines on the market.

I’ll be interested to see if Lovense introduces any more attachments for the Spinel in the future. I could see it becoming a fan favorite, but based on what I know about the fucking-machine enthusiast community, I would imagine some users would prefer larger penetration than the Spinel can provide as-is. Just an idea, Lovense! 😜

Overall, though… The Spinel is a truly impressive toy, and it’ll be the first thing I reach for the next time I want to get railed at a distance.
